FileZilla - Transferring Files To/From Sherlock Using FileZilla (CSU Preferred Method)
Instructions for Installing FileZilla for sFTP data transfers (The timeout period of inactivity is 10 minutes before you will be logged out of the Secure Enclave.)
1. Download the Recommended version, not the "Sponsored" version of FileZilla from https://filezilla-project.org/download.php?show_all=1
2. Install FileZilla application following install instructions. (Users may not have the administrative privileges to install the software. If this is the case, you should contact your local college administrators or the Research IT team to assist you first.)
3. Launch FileZilla application
To Setup a New Site:
Open up the Site Manager:
Manually
by clicking "File" and selecting "Site Manager…"

4. Select New Site
and fill in the information below:
Rename site as CSU01
Protocol: SFTP - SSH
File Transfer Protocol
Host name: ucce-mft.sdsc.edu (The hostname may have changed)
Port: (your port number will be assigned)
Logon
Type: Interactive (As we will be using Duo for MFA)
Username: <Your
Sherlock AD username>

Also set your Transfer Settings to "Maximum number of connections:" to 1

5. Press
"OK" to Save your settings. It'll ask if you want to save your
password, click Yes
6. Select CSU01 and click Login.
7. When you initiate the connection to the site, you will see the message below.
Check the box for Always trust this host, add this key to the cache.
Select OK to continue.

8. Select continue to close the Authentication Banner.
9. Enter your Sherlock AD password when prompted.
10. Enter 1 when
prompted with “Enter the RSA SecurID token to complete authentication”.
NOTE: Once “OK” is clicked, the RSA SecurID token window will close beginning a 12 second time limit to Accept the Duo token on your phone. If the token is not accepted the RSA SecurID window will open again because the password’s associated token has expired. “Cancel” must be clicked and the Connect process must be restarted for a new password token generation.

Accept the Duo push notification on your phone.
11. When you have successfully logged in, it should look similar to below. The left side shows your local file system, the right side shows your files on the remote site. To upload files, you can drag and drop files or folders from the left side to the right. To download, you can drag and drop files or folders from the right side to the left.
12. Files will
appear on your M: drive on your Virtual Desktop under the Usr directory in the
Secure Enclave.

13. The M: drive is a holding area to and from Sherlock. Once data has been uploaded to the M: drive it needs to be moved to the appropriate project folder on the S: Drive and Deleted from the M:" Drive. If the data was downloaded or transferred from the Secure Enclave, once it has been transferred it needs to be deleted from the M: drive. If it is not deleted from the M: drive this will impact the cost to your project.
You should also save your passwords in FileZilla.
Saving your passwords.
- With FileZilla open, go to edit -> Settings.* (Some older versions may say 'Preferences' instead of 'Settings')
- Now go to Interface -> Passwords and select "Save passwords" from the radio buttons. (On older versions you may have to click Interface and uncheck “Do not save passwords” from the Behaviour section.)
- Press "OK" to save your changes.

Troubleshooting: Repetitive or unsuccessful password and DUO requests.
Failed login attempts and incorrect setting configurations appear to be saved in job DB queue and appear to be retried until successful or purged from history.
Bottom left corner of FileZilla, right-click Queued files select “Stop and remove all”
Failed jobs are remembered even after FileZilla is closed.


Should show empty after that action.
