Setting up and connecting to Sherlock using RDP
These instructions as well as the details needed, such as host to connect to and credentials are all included in the Account Activation email sent from UCSD when the project environment is setup in Sherlock.
Connecting to the Sherlock RDS server
1. Download the RDP file in this solution.
2. Save the file as “sherlock” onto your desktop.

3. Double click on the RDP “sherlock“ you just saved on your desktop.

4. A warning banner will appear on your screen, check the box “Don’t ask me again for connections to this computer” and click “Connect”

You may also see the below security certificate banner.
Check the "Don't ask me again for connections to this computer" box and click Yes to continue.

5. You will be prompted with a login screen, enter the following: <Please ignore the items in 1 and 2 as your configuration may look different.>
Username: sherlock\”<yourusername>”
Password: “<yourpassword>”

6. You will be prompted with this screen: <Please ignore the "Connecting to:" information as your connecting may look different.>

7. While connecting, you will receive a push notification from the Duo Mobile application on your smartphone.
- Press the green “Approve” button. You will now be directed to the server session.

8. When you are done with your session, you can either log off or disconnect by Right clicking on the Start (Window logo) select “Shutdown or sign out” and select “Disconnect” or Sign out”.
Note: “Sign Out” will log out of your session, “Disconnect” will disconnect you from your session but you will still be logged in.
For example, if you are running a SAS Analysis but want your session to remain running, select disconnect. If you select sign out, your SAS analysis will terminate.
