How to Request Class Access to the Alpine HPC Cluster
The Alpine High-Performance Computing (HPC) cluster is a valuable resource for research and academic activities at Colorado State University (CSU). Professors can request access to the Alpine HPC cluster for their classes to perform computational tasks, run simulations, or use specialized software.
This article outlines the steps required to place a request for a class to use the Alpine HPC cluster.
Step 1: Student Account Creation
Direct your students to this link to sign up for an Alpine account.
Webpage for Alpine account Sign Up page.
The account is usually created within 5-10 minutes, and students should receive a confirmation email.
Troubleshoot any account creation issues.
If any students face issues during the sign-up process, they can open a support ticket by emailing rc2-request@colostate.edu and including the class name in the subject.
Step 2: Class Information
While the students sign up, please send us an email at rc2-request@colostate.edu to start setting up access for your class. In the email, include the following:
1. Class Name
2. CSU NetIDs of all students
3. Software/Programs your class will use
4. Shared Directory On Alpine (Specify access type too)
5. Estimated data transfer size
- The name of your class in the email subject.
- The CSU NetIDs of all students in the class who need access to the Alpine cluster.
- Browse the available software on the Alpine cluster and specify which applications you will need for your class.
- If your class needs a shared directory on the Alpine cluster, specify this. Please specify whether students should have read or write access to the shared directory.
- Read Access: Students can view and download files but cannot modify them.
- Write Access: Students can view, download, modify, and upload files.
- Please specify if you would need to transfer large amounts of data (>500MB) to Alpine so that the most appropriate data transfer service is used.
For any queries open a ticket for support by emailing rc2-request@colostate.edu.
