How to create a new IRB Protocol To access Kuali for IRB protocols go to https://colostate.kuali.co/protocols Sign in with your CSU eID name and password After signing in, you will be directed to the “Manage Protocols” screen. The title, protocol #, and the status of each protocol are shown You can search protocols You can filter protocols by clicking on “Advanced Filters” Click “+ New Protocol” and choose the IRB drop-down Select PI name and Department from drop-down menu Fort Collins users please select a “CO” unit to access the main campus IRB module Pueblo researchers please select a “PB” unit to access the Pueblo IRB module Click “Next” to continue Select the appropriate application type for the project you are submitting **Please note that your selection will seriously change the form and the questions Answer the general questions and select “Next” Protocols are automatically saved when “Save Complete” appears at the bottom of the screen A green checkmark indicates that a section is complete (please note that some sections will never have a green checkmark) Remember, progressive logic is used throughout the form and is based on your answers to the general and specific questions, so you may see questions on one protocol and not another. The PI Certification section ensures the CSU IRB that all protocol personnel are properly certified and trained and all procedures are conducted in accordance with IRB regulation and that all statements are accurate to the best of the PI’s knowledge. Select “Submit” from the right-hand sidebar when ready If a required section is not complete, a red-outlined box will appear after you hit “Submit” with the number of errors. Scrolling through the protocol will reveal errors. Submission does NOT mean the protocol is approved. The protocol must be reviewed by the CSU IRB approval board or a designated member of the IRB committee. After review, the protocol may be returned for edits or additional information. When approved, an email notification will be sent to the PI and key personnel. After review When returned, IRB office comments will appear throughout the protocol page as “Action Items.” The left sidebar menu will show which section has an action item (shown as an orange circle with a number for # of comments in each section). Click on the “Action Item” box to read comments/action items At the top of the page, each version of the protocol can be accessed via the “Compare Versions” drop-down You can compare versions and any edited text will show in green with the version # visible
