Activity
@ mentions in chat or in a team, reactions to your messages or posts (thumbs up, emoticons).

Chat
Chat in teams allows you to instant message (IM) any eID in the CSU Address book.

Teams
Must be created by request, used to create defined groups for collaborative activities and conversation. Files and videos can be published to be edited or viewed by members of
the team. By invitation only, not transferable (can’t forward an invitation), can be locked (discontinued) by the team owner when no longer used. Only the team owners can add or remove members.

Assignments
Instructors can create classes and manage assignments here -- not applicable to our environment
Calendar
The Teams calendar for the logged in user. Will display information from that user’s Outlook calendar, but the calendar items are maintained/managed separately.

Calls
Online audio or video call within the Teams app. Not tied to a person’s CSU phone number (at this time).

Files
Attachments shared within a chat conversation or a team. Also allows access to OneDrive locations.

…
Access to additional apps that integrate with Teams (Trello, Confluence, etc).

Apps
Linked apps, almost the same as the ... menu item.

Help
Online (web, not CSU) information about using Teams features, reporting a problem, suggesting new features.

Hovering over your photo will show any Outlook automatic reply that is active.

Status dot is tied to your calendar – e.g., if you are in a meeting, it will be red.

You can create a specific status message that Teams users will see when they hover over your image in chat (Vacation, WFH, etc.)

Settings controls themes, notifications, sounds, and if Teams starts when you start your computer (among other things).

Chat supports Instant messages to any CSU eID, as well as group messages between multiple CSU eIDs.

Recent = chat conversations, defaults to newest at top; To keep specific people or groups at the top, use
the three dots by the conversation to open the menu, and choose ‘Pin’

The chat history between individuals or groups will viewable and searchable while in the Chat screen

Participants can be added to a chat by pressing the add participants button in the top right corner of the chat window:

Importance marker: Caution: Marking a message as Urgent will push notifications every 2 minutes for 20 minutes. Use this function only if
you absolutely must.

Format button: Use the format button to compose messages when you require more complex formatting, similar to formatting options in outlook.

Attachment button: You can attach files to a message, just as you would in outlook. Keep in mind that files attached through chat can only be deleted by deleting the chat they were attached to.

Video Calls, Audio Calls and Screen Sharing can be initiated from the appropriate buttons in the top right of the Chat transcript:

Group Chats:

Start a new chat with the
icon to the left of the search
bar at the top of the teams window

Type the names of the people you wish to add to the group chat

Group chats do not require a name, however, if you wish to name the group chat, click the
icon
to the right of the name field, and type the name

Alternatively, you can rename a group chat at any time:

Files can be viewed using the Files area, but each Chat also has a Files section specific to that conversation:

Files can’t be deleted from the Files section.

A file that is in a Chat conversation can be deleted by deleting the message that included the file:

Files can be drag and dropped into Chats with individuals or groups, as well as into a Team

Files such as word documents, excel files and more can be viewed directly through the files tab of the chat, or can be opened in an external application
Calendar:

Your Outlook calendar is displayed within Microsoft Teams. If any meetings on your calendar are Teams meetings, a Join button will appear when the meeting start time is approaching.

Any Outlook meeting can be a Microsoft Teams meeting, this applies to new meetings or editing existing meetings.

Add attendees and a location as usual, then click the Teams Meeting button.

A unique and dynamically generated Teams link will be added to the body of the meeting.
