Use DUO Mobile to connect through the Global Protect VPN in order to remote desktop
Note
If you get a new phone, even if it is the same phone number, you have to set it up again. You need to remove the old phone from the Modify devices portal before following the steps starting below to add the new device.
Set up DUO Mobile App
For iPhone:
- In the App Store, search for DUO Mobile, and select the Duo Mobile app

- Install the app.
For Android:
- In the play Store, search for DUO Mobile, and select the Duo Mobile app

- Install the app.
Add A New Device
Warning
Be sure to add more than one device to the devices portal. It is recommended that when setting up DUO, the mobile phone with DUO app is added first, then an office phone is added second. This will maintain the correct device order in Global Protect. This is very important in the case that your main device (usually a cell phone) is lost or dead.
- In a web browser on a computer, navigate to authenticate.colostate.edu
- Click the Sign-up/Modify Devices button

- Ensure that the checkbox is checked, and click the Register Device link

- Under the Device Name field, type a name for the device you are setting up, e.g. "My phone", "My iPad", etc.
- Type the phone number of the device in the Phone Number field
- In the Type drop-down menu, select DUO mobile app

- In the Platform drop-down menu, select the correct platform for the device you are adding. (For iPhone select Apple iOS, for Android select Google Android)
- Click the Save button
- Leave the current browser window Open
- Open the DUO Mobile app on your mobile device, and click the Get Started link
- If prompted to allow camera permissions, click allow
- Point the camera at the QR code in the browser window, and the DUO mobile app will automatically scan the QR code
Add a Second Device
- Follow steps 1a through 1d from above, substituting the Device Name field for something like Office Phone.
- In the Type drop down menu, select Phone Call.
- In the Platform drop down menu, select Generic Phone.

- Click the Save button.
Caution
When trying to connect using the Global Protect VPN, you will approve the connection in the DUO Mobile app. However, if you ever receive a notification to approve or deny a connection, and you are not trying to connect using the VPN, Deny the connection.
